![]() It is with much regret I write that this book disappointed me. ![]() Your work remains the bedrock of my romance reading list. Yet, I’m willing to move beyond that incredulous platform because your work, for me, has been so stellar. Needless to say, this is akin to lightning striking the same spot twice in one storm. The second book pairs another dressmaker with an Earl. The first book, Silk is for Seduction, portrays the romance between a dressmaker and a Duke in England. ![]() The very nature of this series presents a problem or at the very least requires a huge suspension of disbelief of the reader. ![]() It is an invitation to be courageous to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees. Bren Brown's vast and popular body of work (multiple best-selling books, wildly popular TED talks, and now a new Netflix special, The Call to Courage) have shown us that vulnerability is. She argues that, in truth, vulnerability is strength and when we shut ourselves off from vulnerability - from revealing our true selves - we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.ĭaring Greatly is the culmination of 12 years of groundbreaking social research, across every area of our lives including home, relationships, work and parenting. In a powerful new vision Dr Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability, and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness. Here are a few of the big ideas that emerged from this research: You can’t get to courage without rumbling with vulnerability. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect. The goal of Dare to Lead is to share everything we’ve learned about taking off the armor and showing up as leaders in a skills-based and actionable playbook. ![]() ![]() Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative, or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. ![]() ![]() This was probably the best written and most enchanting piece of erotica that I have read thus far this year. Inside the bedroom though, he is all about taking risks while maintaining control. Therefore, he despises airplanes and the fact that Faith is so determined to get behind the wheel of one. Leonhardt isn't quite as adventurous as Faith is when it comes to things of the non-sexual nature. Equipped with her mother's fortune and her stepfather somewhat watching over her, Faith is content to continue traveling around the world and flying her airplane. If she had a theme song it would either be 'Independent Women' by Destiny's Child or PCD's 'I Don't Need A Man'. She loves adventure and has absolutely no desire (or need) to relinquish her freedom by getting married or tied down to a man for the rest of her life. ![]() You have Faith, who is very much a modern day independent woman of her time. Despite things between Faith and Leonhardt getting hot and heavy very fast, it didn't take away from the story, seem forced or out of character for either. This was my first time reading anything from Cari Silverwood, but it is safe to say that she will be making my list of Authors I Love. ![]() ![]() When becoming an actress was still a pipe dream for Coolidge, she worked at a bar in New York with fellow actress Sandra Bullock. Repps Hudson, St. Many writers would tell such a story with an air of condescension or disapproval, but not Burdett. I found it hard to put down this book and loved its pace, wit and humor. The plot is more complex, the observations of Thai, American and Southeast Asian cultures more nuanced, the reach of his story greater. Burdett has found his voice with Bangkok Haunts. ![]() Highly recommended." Liz Smith "Full of his usual insights into the subculture for which Thailand is known, Bangkok Haunts is Burdett's best mystery yet in the series. Now, happily, he has another one titled Bangkok Haunts. This is not the tourist's Thailand! You won't read anything else like Burdett, nor will you ever escape the spell of his extraordinary Buddhist detective, Sonchai Jitpleecheep. John Burdett is the mastermind behind these cops and robbers tales set in Thailand. Shadowing Sonchai on his trip to the heart of darkness is haunting indeed." Carlo Wolff, Boston Globe "Bangkok 8 turned out to be such a dazzlingly unusual detective story that I bought 25 copies of the thing and began giving them away. characters are scintillating even more powerful is Burdett's depiction of an economy with prostitution as a fundament. His portrayal of Sonchai gains depth with each Bangkok novel, his apprehension of women ever more nuanced. Burdett is equally good with male and female characters.
